Jordanians jailed for attempt to kill US president
Jamaica News.Net Wednesday 14th May, 2008
Jordan's state security court has delivered a 15-year-jail sentence to three Jordanians who were convicted of plotting to kill US President George Bush during his visit to the kingdom in 2006.
Wednesday's verdict came almost a year and a half after the three young men, Nidhal Musleh al-Momani, Sattam al-Zawahrah and Tharwat Daraj were arrested Nov 28, 2006, a day before Bush arrived in the Jordan's capital Amman.
They were convicted of two charges: conspiracy to carry out terrorist attack and carrying out terrorist actions with explosives.
The three Islamic militants were found with large plastic bottles filled with gasoline to be used as bombs.
Prosecutors say they also planned to attack the American and Danish embassies in Amman.
The verdict is not the final one and remains open to appeal, the court said.
